Dr Charlotte Deans is a consultant obstetrician with more than 20 years experience in supporting women through their birth and into the postnatal journey beyond. She has a specialist interest in maternal mental health, and is the obstetric lead for the perinatal mental health service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital London. She has experience in supporting women with a wide range of mental health issues, as well as women who have experienced trauma in a previous birth or at another time in their lives. Charlotte is passionate about raising awareness and reducing stigma of mental health issues in pregnancy . She wants to encourage women to find a safe and supportive space to discuss any concerns during their pregnancy so that they can reduce their risk of postnatal depression or of a mental health crisis at this most vulnerable time. She advocates for women to be better informed about the safety of medication and to improve awareness of the professional support that is available.
